"As our ancestors looked upward for their sustenance, we now look beyond the tops for the meaning of our existence."
-Conclusion of Inaugural Address, Speaker Hessalas of the Spherical Cooperative (0 FTL)
The Seresheth are a people of delicate curiosity.
The average Sereshi stands more than three meters in height, though of a very slender and light frame that allowed rapid movement in its evolutionary past. Each of two arms extends between one half and two thirds the length of the body, and has two ball-and-socket synovial joints at roughly equal intervals that allow the articulation necessary to harvest its vegetarian diet from the tops of plant life. The lower appendages, though, only have one synovial joint along their length, which is far more rigid and locks in place after moving backward only a small arc length. The cephalopodal body structure is topped by a head. Along its upper area are four eyes, the upper two more circular and the lower two more horizontally ovular. The former were used in observation of the endless daytime canopy, and the latter were used to guard against predation. Below the eyes is a long, narrow opening containing two opposing ridged, calcified structures used to chop, grind, and ingest their diet. Respiration occurs through the use of a row of slits along the upper body, which, in conjunction with the resonating chamber of the mouth, is used for audible communication.
Modern Seresheth revel in the advancement of knowledge and technology, but do not pursue it with reckless abandon. Exploration is considered the noblest of professions, and careful evaluation of any situation is a significant cultural value, though the range of Seresheth behavior is quite wide.
Most off-world Seresheth posts are research stations and communications relays. Only after many years of observation and planning has any population project begun on nearby planetary bodies.
